About Events

The Railway Transportation of passengers and traffic has been running in India for more than a century with a credible record of safety and has become a critically important part of our way life and economy. It has also adapted with rapid changes of technology particularly with the current wave of digitalization. Digitalisation brings in wake some new challenges and vulnerabilities which must be acknowledged and catered for in terms of preparation and resilience.

An analysis of cyber related incidents involving the Railway transportation globally since 2018 and other countries show a motive aimed at causing financial loses or destruction of services and thereby disruption of economic activities. In countries like India where the railways occupy a significance in the matrix of goods and passenger transportation, this achieves a serious national security dimension and an issue integral to national resilience. In recognition of this aspect, the Government of India has identified certain basic digital or cyber infrastructure as the Critical Information Infrastructure for the nation as a whole for its well-being and security. The Railway sector happens to be an important component of National Critical Information Infrastructure and created National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) as the apex organisation, to advise, lay guidelines for and co-ordinate Cyber Security in such identified organisations as there is a need for every component of the National Critical Infrastructure to adhere and observe a strong cyber security protocol in their functioning.

Accordingly, the Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF), a non-profit organisation, under the aegis of the NCIIPC organized a Cyber Security Awareness Workshop for the Senior and Middle level Railways and Metro Rail officials at the India International Centre (Annexe) on 26th February 2020 at New Delhi.
