Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF) and World Animal Protection (WAP) embarked on certain initiatives to address this issue in association with Union & State Govts and Veterinary Institutions. These initiatives include a National Workshop on Management of Animals in Emergencies (Delhi, March, 2016), release of National Plan on Management of Animals in Emergencies (March, 2016), training of responders in all the battalions of NDRF and SDRF Bihar and a comprehensive
programme launched by Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) to train nearly 1,000 Veterinarians in the state in this field. The National Workshop in Delhi in March 2016 made many significant recommendations which, inter alia, suggested amendment of the DM Act 2005 to include ‘animals’ at Sec 2(d) and Secretary, Animal Husbandry at Sec 8(b) of the Act.
