Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF) organised the second session of its Dialogue Series on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on the theme “Innovations in India’s Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Solutions”, jointly with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The distinguished panelists for the session included Shri K.M. Singh, Vice President, PPF; Shri Safi Ahsan Rizvi Rizvi, Advisor, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)INDIA; Shri Rohit Siddareddy, PCI; and Dr. Vishwas Chitale PhD Chitale, Fellow, CEEW. The session was hosted and moderated by Ms. Manika Malhotra, Chief Coordinator, PPF. The discussion focused on strengthening India’s financial resilience to disasters through innovative insurance mechanisms, risk transfer instruments, and community-level financing approaches. Panelists underscored the importance of integrating technology and data for risk assessment, and the need for cross-sector partnerships, bringing together public and private actors, and for-profit and non-profit entities, to effectively design, implement, and scale disaster financing mechanisms across India. Speakers also emphasized that building resilience requires not only policy innovation but also collaborative governance and sustained investment in risk reduction measures. Through this Dialogue Series, PPF continues its effort to bring together policymakers, experts, and practitioners to deliberate on critical aspects of India’s disaster resilience strategy.
